To make these “Mascaras”, you are going to need pretzel rods, pink chocolate candy melts (or your choice of color), black chocolate candy melts, and a bottle of gold Edibleart Decorative Cake Paint.

Begin by preparing a baking sheet by lining it with a sheet of wax or parchment paper and set it aside.

Then, empty your candy melts into a tall drinking glass and microwave them on high in one-minute bursts for up to two minutes, stirring after each minute, until your chocolate has melted completely. Do not overheat, as your chocolate will seize.

Remove your glass from the microwave and gently turn it on its side allowing your chocolate to run toward the rim of your glass. Insert your pretzel rod into the glass and twist it around in your chocolate to coat the length of your pretzel rod. Scrape the bottom surface of your pretzel rod along the rim of your glass while pulling it out of your chocolate and rest it on your prepared baking sheet. Repeat this process with your remaining 11 pretzel rods. Refrigerate for 20 minutes or until your chocolate hardens.

Once your chocolate has hardened on your pretzel rods, remove them from the refrigerator and let them rest on your countertop for 10 to 15 minutes so the condensation can evaporate. Then, with a food-safe paint brush, paint the top 1.5 inches of your pretzel rods with two coats of gold edible cake paint to form the “lid” of the mascara. Make sure you let your pretzel rods dry completely after each coat.

After your paint has dried completely on your pretzel rods, empty your black chocolate candy melts into a squeeze bottle fitted with a fine tip and microwave them on high in 30-second intervals, stirring with a knife after each 30-seconds, until your chocolate has melted completely. Do not overheat, as your chocolate will seize. Use your squeeze bottle to draw a line across each pretzel rod where the “lid” and “bottle” meet (see photos). Then, draw in the name of the mascara brand of your choice. Allow your pretzels to rest on your counter until your chocolate hardens before transferring them to an air-tight container. They should be completely dry in about 30 minutes. It is important to note that you should NOT refrigerator your completed pretzel rods, as the moisture from the refrigerator will turn the exposed portion of your pretzel rod stale.
