By now, you probably get the point that I love to cook and bake. Bringing joy to my family and friends through good food and confections makes the effort I put into creating my dishes completely worthwhile. With that being said, however, as a very busy wife, mother, and full-time professional, I absolutely understand the NEED for quick meals that take minimal effort. Throughout my adult life, I have done my very best to assimilate the flavors of gourmet cooking into quick meals that anyone can make to WOW their family. Sure, I have many recipes that will have you in the kitchen for quite a bit a time, because the kitchen is generally where I love to be, but life is all about balance, which is why I try to balance those time-consuming gourmet meals and confections with ones like my French Dip recipe that I am about to share with you.

I’ll be honest, I grew up cooking for my family, which consisted of my older brother (who was an athlete), my father (who was constantly burning energy doing manual labor), my grandfather, mother and myself, so the meals I made had to be large enough to suit three men with big appetites and my mom and I. Now that I’m cooking for less people, I haven’t really changed most of my recipe portions, so I oftentimes have leftovers (which is fabulous, because that means I get a day or two off from having to cook a meal). The French Dip recipe I am about to share with you is one that I came up with to add new life to my leftover French Onion Pot Roast. With the simple additions of a yummy French Onion Mayo and a Homemade Au Jus Dipping Sauce, you can turn my French Onion Pot Roast into a sandwich that is bursting with delicious flavor.

For the French Onion Mayo, you are going to need prepared alfredo sauce, mayo, Lipton Onion Soup Mix, and onion salt. For the Homemade Au Jus Dipping Sauce, you are going to need extra virgin olive oil, onion, butter, flour, beef broth, soy sauce, garlic powder, Himalayan Pink Salt and freshly ground black pepper. To assemble the sandwiches, you will need French steak rolls, some of my French Onion Pot Roast, and Swiss cheese.

Begin by preheating your oven broiler on high. Next, make your French Onion Mayo by adding your prepared alfredo, mayo, Lipton Onion Soup Mix, and onion salt to a small bowl, and whisk to completely combine; set aside.

Then, make your Homemade Au Jus Dipping Sauce. To do this, in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, heat your extra virgin olive oil until it is shimmering. Add in your onion and sauté until it’s translucent; about one minute. Next, make a roux by melting your butter in your saucepan and whisking in your flour. Pour in your beef broth and soy sauce. Add in your garlic powder and salt and pepper to taste. Whisk until all of your ingredients are completely combined. Turn your heat up to high and bring your sauce to a simmer to thicken it slightly while you assemble your sandwiches. You want your sauce to be thicker than broth, but not as thick as gravy. You just want it to be thick enough to adhere nicely to your sandwich when it’s dipped. If your sauce gets too thick, add in some more beef broth to thin it out.

To assemble your French Dip sandwiches, slice each of your steak rolls in half lengthwise and layer a generous amount of French Onion Mayo on each half. Place both halves of each roll on a baking sheet with the mayo side facing upward, and set your baking sheet aside. Then, using two forks, shred your French Onion Pot Roast, drain off as much liquid as possible, and layer about 3-4 ounces of it on top of the bottom half of each steak roll. Top with one slice of your Swiss cheese. Place your baking sheet under your preheated oven broiler for about 1 minute until the cheese and sauce are bubbly and the edges of the bread just start to brown. Remove your pan from the oven, fit your sandwich halves together and slice each sandwich in half. Serve alongside a generous helping of your Homemade Au Jus Dipping Sauce in these Bia Cordon Bleu Oslo White Porcelain 6-Ounce Ramekin, Set of 4 from Amazon.
